As a kid born in Minnesota, and growing up in Washington, D.C., my family was not always able to celebrate the Thanksgiving holidays with our extended family. In an effort to fill the house with laughter and holiday cheer, my parents would always open our home to families and friends who were also separated by distance from their loved ones.
One of my favorite memories on this special day was taking our "burn-off-the-turkey" walk through the neighborhood after a great meal with friends old and new.
